CERIS GRADUATE STUDENT OPEN HOUSE HELD ON APRIL 23RD

About 50 graduate students from Toronto, Guelph, Waterloo and Vancouver attended our first Open House for graduate students. It was an opportunity for students and faculty working on immigration and settlement research to establish ties and share research interests. The graduate students also found out about the benefits of becoming CERIS affiliates such as gaining access to census data on immigrants.  Many suggestions were put forward to maintain the interest and involvement of graduate students, including setting up a CERIS list serve for students, holding student seminars and occasional meetings. Contact the leader of your research domain for more information.

THANK YOU and GOOD LUCK!

CERIS would like to thank Haruko Nishimura and Yuliya Prodaniuk who have completed their internships. Haruko gathered and compiled information from surveys on the research and dissemination activities of CERIS grant-holders and Research Associates, while Yuliya was involved in many on-going projects at CERIS.  Her main contribution was in organizing the seminars focusing on contemporary immigration from Ukraine, South Asia and Africa.

We’d also like to thank Evelyn Ersanilli, a graduate student from Utrecht University, who recently completed a six month affiliation with CERIS. During this period Evelyn conducted research for her Masters Thesis titled "A Comparison of Dutch and Canadian Multicultural Policies". Supported by the  supervision of CERIS Community Domain leader, Myer Siemiatycki, Evelyn’s research compared the integration of Turkish immigrants in Toronto and the Netherlands.
