As a result of a collaborative effort by Strategic Policy and Resource Management Branch, Canadian Identity Sector, Department of Canadian Heritage and by Census Operations Division, Customer Services Section of Statistics Canada, custom tabulations from the 1996 Census were produced and packaged on three (3) CD-ROMs under selected themes.   The tabulations comprise a total of 150 tables (tables 1-139 of which 11 are divided in two parts to cover the full-range of geographic areas selected) in Beyond B20/20v5.1 format and are grouped as follows:

·         CD1 contains tables 1 to 51 on Place of Birth, Ethnic Origin, Visible Minority and Detailed Language;

·         CD2 contains tables 52 to 96 on First Official Language;

·         CD3 contains tables 97 to 139 on Family, Children in Census Family, Culture and Parks.

The selection criteria for the geographic areas are linked to the themes of the tables and were determined by Canadian Heritage.

For your convenience a list of the table titles found on each CD-ROM is included (etab.htm), as well as a complete set of the specifications for each census variable contained in the tables (evar.htm).  The “etab.htm” document contains hyperlinks and, therefore, allows you to open a table in Beyond 20/20 by clicking on the table number and/or to view the specification for each of the variables by clicking on the variable name.
