findings, and she will coauthor additional papers that we will be submitting for
publication. Joan Simalchik-drafted CCVT Report, and was also exposed to the team's data
analysis discussions. The third student transcribed the focus group sessions. |

the settlement patterns of various Chinese subgroups and the spatial distribution of
Chinese businesses. The other students, conducted telephone interviews and analyzed data.
They were trained in the use of various databases, statistical (SAS, SPSS) and
geographical information system (ArcView) software. |

wrote her graduating Major Paper on planning for diverse immigrant communities in Toronto.
Mark Fitzgerald contributed to the production of maps and tables portraying the diversity
of immigrant Toronto. Natalie Prince researched conflicts over the Jamaican Canadian
Association's efforts to establish a new community centre. Kelly Thorarinson researched
relations between the Chinese community and municipal government in Markham. Shaheen
Ramputh researched the experience of Muslims attempting to establish mosques in Toronto. |

headed the analysis of the interviews using NUDIST software, as well as thematic analysis.
Shirley Lai, the student coordinator, recruited respondents, scheduled interviews, sent
tapes for transcription, and cleaned and collected data. Student interviewers underwent
training, and conducted interviews in English, Cantonese or Mandarin. |
