Susan Dudziak- involved in data collection sessions, recording the data,developing the data analysis scheme and analytical categories, and oversaw the different components of analysis to ensure their integration. Her contribution was reflected in the first publication of the findings, and she will coauthor additional papers that we will be submitting for publication. Joan Simalchik-drafted CCVT Report, and was also exposed to the team's data analysis discussions. The third student transcribed the focus group sessions.

The graduate students received training in questionnaire design, interviewing technique, census data interpretation, presenting at national conferences, working with community groups, and academic writing. An undergraduate student was also used for library research and survey distribution.

Chi Shen mapped the settlement patterns of various Chinese subgroups and the spatial distribution of Chinese businesses. The other students, conducted telephone interviews and analyzed data. They were trained in the use of various databases, statistical (SAS, SPSS) and geographical information system (ArcView) software.

The project provided training opportunities for three students: two doctoral students were involved in the developmental phase (gathering data, textual analysis), and one student who joined the project during the final data gathering.

Stacy Clark wrote her graduating Major Paper on planning for diverse immigrant communities in Toronto. Mark Fitzgerald contributed to the production of maps and tables portraying the diversity of immigrant Toronto. Natalie Prince researched conflicts over the Jamaican Canadian Association's efforts to establish a new community centre. Kelly Thorarinson researched relations between the Chinese community and municipal government in Markham. Shaheen Ramputh researched the experience of Muslims attempting to establish mosques in Toronto.

Ramona Alaggia headed the analysis of the interviews using NUDIST software, as well as thematic analysis. Shirley Lai, the student coordinator, recruited respondents, scheduled interviews, sent tapes for transcription, and cleaned and collected data. Student interviewers underwent training, and conducted interviews in English, Cantonese or Mandarin.

Mary Roufail and Samah El Rifai were trained to lead the focus groups, arrange focus group meetings and act as co-facilitators. Munaza Chaudhry compiled data from a 1991 census and under supervision, and conducted the epidemiologic analysis.
