NOTE
In their research and other CERIS related activities, CERIS
affiliates are bound by the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Behaviour,
Conflict of Interest Guidelines, Policy on Ethical Conduct in Research, and Statement on
Human Rights and related policies, in effect at their respective university or
organization. Where their university or organization does not have its own policy in one
or more of the above areas or the individual in question is not affiliated with a
particular university or organization, CERIS affiliates will be considered bound by the
respective policy/policies in effect at Ryerson Polytechnic University, the University of
Toronto, and/or York university.
CERIS RESEARCHER DESIGNATIONS
Fellow
This designation is a mark of research distinction.
Nominations may be made by any member of CERIS. The associated rights and responsibilities
are the same as those of Research Associates. However, the designation is not contingent
upon involvement in a CERIS-based research project. Term: five years.
Research Associate
Individual researchers involved in research carried out
under the auspices of CERIS.
Examples include:
- Collaborative Researchers: the lead researcher and other
members of CERIS' RFP research teams (with the exception of research assistants);
- Researchers on other research project teams supported or
endorsed by CERIS;
- Post-Doctoral Fellowship holders officially affiliated
with CERIS (after having received a letter of institutional support);
- Other individual researchers actively involved in CERIS
research activities.
Term: Up to three years.
Rights include: information regarding general
meetings, workshops, seminars, symposia, etc., sponsored by CERIS; access to office
services subject to personnel availability and limitations; access to materials and
supplies on a cost-recovery basis; access to documentation centre and research databases
(on a cost-recovery basis); professional use of affiliation status. Responsibilities
include: provision of information (eg. resume/curriculum vitae, bio-sketch) and
research project at periodic intervals as requested; donation/facilitation of copies of
all relevant publications to the CERIS documentation centre; active involvement in CERIS
sponsored research seminars, workshops and other forms of information sharing and research
dissemination; willingness to participate in CERIS communication linkages (eg.
radio, electronic and telecommunications).
Visiting Scholar
An individual scholar not affiliated with CERIS or one of
its constituent partners who has received a letter of invitation to visit CERIS for a
period of one month to one year in order to pursue a programme of research. Visiting
Scholars must have received a letter of institutional support from CERIS. Their rights and
responsibilities are those of a Research Associate, but their term is strictly limited to
the duration of their visit.
Research Assistant (University)
Undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate students directly
involved in CERIS research projects and/or activities. Supervised by the lead researcher
of the research project in question. Term: duration of the research project (or until end
of involvement with the project in question).
Research Assistant (Community)
Community-based research assistants directly involved in
CERIS research projects and/or activities. Supervised by the lead researcher of the
research project in question. Term: duration of the research project, or until end of
their involvement with the project in question.
Affiliated Member (Individual)
Other interested individuals whose work focuses on
immigration and settlement issues. Such individuals receive invitations to general
meetings, symposia, etc., sponsored by CERIS and are expected to participate in such
activities on a regular basis. Term: up to three years.
Affiliated Member (Institutional)
Interested organisations on CERIS mailing lists whose
mandate and activities centre around immigrant and settlement issues and who are
interested in various informational exchange and/or collaborative initiatives.
Institutional members also receive invitations to general meetings, symposia, etc.,
sponsored by CERIS. Term: up to three years. |
